Advanced Placement DL Pilot Program
This spring, WestShore Centre will pilot the Advanced Placement French Language 12 as a DL course.
Advanced Placement French Language 12 for French Immersion Students
This course is designed to prepare students who are completing Grade 12 French Immersion (Francais Langue 12) to be successful on the Advanced Placement French Language 12 examination, which is written in May. The exam includes listening, speaking, reading and writing components and the course will offer students the opportunity to practice with old exams as well as to review the necessary concepts and skills.
French Immersion students usually do very well on the AP exam (usually scoring 86% or higher). Unlike most students who have studied French as a second language course in grades 8-12, French Immersion students have superior fluency because of their immersion experience. This experience is a tremendous advantage when writing the AP French language exam.
High School Credit: All students who complete this course will receive 4 credits on their transcript for Advanced Placement French 12.
University Credit: French Immersion students usually move directly into second or third year French language courses when they attend college or university, however they do not receive actual "university credit". When students are successful on an AP exam, and they are, they will receive university credit! Students who achieve a score of 86% or higher will receive 1/5 of a year of university credit - either assigned or unassigned - at almost any college or university in Canada.
* For Post Secondary institutions in BC, refer to
the BC Course Transfer Guide: (http://www.bctransferguide.ca/advanced/ap0910.cfm).
This is the pilot year for this course. Students
will not pay a fee to write the AP exam, but in
return for waiving the $90 exam fee, we will be
asking students to give us feedback on the course
as they move through the units.
